Join us for our Community Fayre on 11th October!

For the past three years, our big annual event has been our Re-skilling Day, and we’ve been delighted with its success.

This year’s event continues the tradition established by Re-skilling Day, but, in keeping with Transition goals, also opens it to our thriving community businesses.

For our new Community Fayre,  we are teaming up with Ealing Mums in Business, so as well as learning new skills, you will be able to engage with and support the local economy. There will be lots of fantastic things to do, learn, buy and eat.

More details soon: for now please note the date: 11th October, 13:30 to 17:00, St. Mary’s Polygon, W5 5RH.

See you at the fayre!

Southall joins the Transition!

Just up the Uxbridge Road, our new neighbours in Transition, Southall Transition, are holding their first public event on Friday this week.

Formed by a diverse group from the Southall community, they are certainly off to a flying start!

Southall Transition Event 29-4-14At the end of April, working with the Greenfield Children’s Centre, the group took over 50 small children and their families to Southall Community Garden, where they had a great day learning about food, gardening and the history of the area.

The group are also engaging with St. James, the developers of the former Southall Gasworks site, where nearly 4000 houses will be built over the next decade, with the aim of enhancing the sustainability and biodiversity outcomes of the project, and making it more integrated into the community.

Southall Transition will be holding a free public screening of the film “The Power of Community” on Friday 9th May, so if you live in Southall or nearby, this would be a great opportunity to see a brilliant film, to meet the team, and get involved!

It’s been Ealing Transition’s pleasure to support this group as they get started, and we’ve really enjoyed getting to know them, and exchanging (so many!) ideas. We’re sure they’re going to do great things!

Southall Transition are showing “The Power of Community” on Friday 9th May, at 7pm, Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Southall UB1 3HH.

Planting Day

We are organizing a planting day on Saturday 29th March from 10-1pm at the Lammas Enclosure, between Walpole and Lammas Parks (near Will to Win Tennis)

With the kind support of the Walpole ward we will be planting fruit trees and bushes adjacent to the petanque playing area. This is the first wave of planting for what will, in time, become a forest garden – a food-growing space based on the structure of a young forest.

We will also be weeding and re-mulching fruit trees in the orchard, dead-hedging with recently-felled brush wood, and taming the brambles.

Orchard PlantingDo join us to get some fresh air, get your hands dirty, give the kids a run-around and help create a unique growing space. All welcome: no gardening experience necessary.

Please bring gloves and tools, branch cutters, secateurs etc if you have them
