A message from Edible Ealing’s Sarah Rees

For a couple of months we have been seeking volunteers to help take over the running and organisation of Edible Ealing. Sadly no one came forward to offer their services, so it is with deep regret that Hazel, Sharon and myself have decided to stop running the box scheme from the end of March. This means that there will be just two more collection dates, Friday March 4th and Friday 18th March, before we close.

I have been involved with Edible Ealing right from the start, from its inception  6 years ago. Hazel and Sharon both came on board early on in the first year of trading. I think I speak for all three of us when I say we have thoroughly enjoyed our time running a veg box scheme, but it has also taken its toll on us in terms of work/life balance, and that is why we feel we can no longer lead the group. We still meet socially with other volunteers because we have become firm friends, and that  was always part of the plan with regard to Edible Ealing – it wasn’t just about providing fruit and vegetables – it was about building community.

You will be glad to know that there is a Plan B. We have been approached by Thea Gordon-Rawlings (a local resident) , and her friend Priya who want to start up a branch of Food Assembly in Ealing. The timescale for their launch will be some time in the spring. In the meantime, if you would like to know more, please email edible.ealing@gmail.com
