Sunday 19th November 7.30pm. Film Showing: Plastic Paradise

Every single piece of plastic that has been created since the 19th century is still somewhere on our planet. So, if it never goes away, where does it go?

In the early 21st century, rumours about an island of rubbish somewhere in the Pacific Ocean started to rise. TV host and filmmaker Angela Sun decided to investigate. Her journey takes her thousands of miles from human civilization. There, in what should be a remote tropical paradise, she discovers an ecosystem inundated by plastic waste. Exposed to seawater and sunlight, tons of discarded plastics are breaking down into smaller fragments resembling food to fish and birds. A growing toxic confetti is transforming the oceans and is also working its way up the food chain that humans depend on. Angela’s journey is one that everyone living in a disposable society needs to see.

The event will be held at St Mary’s Church, St Mary’s Road, Ealing W5 5RH. Entry is free but donations to help us cover costs will be welcome. As usual refreshments will be provided after the film showing and there will be an opportunity to discuss the film and our response to it.

This event replaces the previously advertised birthday celebration, which we have postponed until next year

Greener City Fund

The Mayor of London has just launched his draft Environment Strategy, and one element of this is a new fund to improve green spaces and encourage more tree planting in London.

Maybe there is an area near you that you would like to see transformed into a functioning green space. Room for a couple of trees and a bench, a raised bed, a linear orchard, or a more substantial project? If so, we can help to make it happen. Send us your idea and a photo of the space you would like to see transformed: we will assess  suitability and submit a bid. As usual, the email address is steering@ealingtransition.org.uk
