Lammas Park enclosure – Sunday 13 october 2019

A big thank you to everyone tree planting today in Ealing Transition’s award winning Lammas Park Enclosure. We were delighted to find a home for a new maple tree courtesy of Rupa Huq MP (who in turn had received her tree as part of Extinction Rebellion’s Reforest Earth initiative* – see below).

Lammas Enclosure was formerly disused hard-court tennis courts, but has now been transformed into a Forest Garden area which includes a Community Orchard, Outdoor Classroom, Edible Garden beds and a range of edible trees and shrubs throughout the developing woodland area. It is open to all, birds, insects and mammals, inclusive of people, all of whom benefit from this thriving natural habitat.

The addition of the field maple, planted on 13th October 2019, by Rupa Huq MP, adds to the diverse forest community which has grown up under the light-touch management of Ealing Transition Initiative and Ealing Parks Rangers to the extent that the area won a coveted Silver Gilt Award from London In Bloom this year.

*Extinction Rebellion’s Reforest Earth initiative calls upon the UK to address the climate emergency by planting billions of trees. As part of their Autumn Uprising, Extinction Rebellion created a fledgling forest outside parliament, from which MPs could collect their personal tree.

Sunday 29th September 7.30pm: LIVEABLE NEIGHBOURHOODS EALING

How can we improve Ealing town centre so that journeys on foot or by bicycle are easier and more enjoyable? How can we encourage people to move away from journeys by car, onto more sustainable forms of transport, like buses and trains? How can we green our streets and make our urban environment more hospitable for us and for wildlife? These are some the questions that we will be considering at our next meeting, with a view to making it a reality for Ealing.

Ealing Council are working with Urban Flow and architects Allies and Morrison to prepare a bid for funding from Transport for London’s Liveable Neighbourhoods fund.

Representatives from Allies and Morrison will be joining us to tell us more about the fund, and to hear our views on how we could improve Ealing town centre. It could be more green spaces, redesigned traffic priorities, wider pavements, better cycling infrastructure. Come along and have your say!

More information about the proposal can be found on Ealing Council’s website here.
